The August Break, 2017: Part One

The August Break is back!  This may very well be the only time of year that I attempt a photo a day based on a prompt designed by another photographer that I have had success in completing.  I did attempt the "biggie," the 365 Project, once many years ago with a photo a day, without prompts, and made it to October which I thought was decent, however unfinished it was.  So, with a brand new August at hand and 31 prompts to keep me grounded (and focused), I'm giving "The August Break" another go around!  I try not to read the prompts - or commit them to memory - more than a day or two ahead to keep it fresh, a somewhat meditative practice.  I will post here every few days or weeks while allowing my images to speak for themselves.  I hope you'll join in The August Break too and if so, please be sure to comment below with your blog link or online sharing site so I can follow along with you and your daily images.  Thanks!

Break for August | Part II

Welcome September!!  I took part in Susannah Conway’s month-long, August Break.  Otherwise known as “a month of slowing down.”  Slowing down is not something on my agenda and probably, I’m gonna take a wild guess, not on yours either!  The idea, rather, is to take a new photo prompt each day, meditate on it (either consciously or subconsciously or, my favorite, somewhere in between!) and act on it.  All in all, it was an enriching, month-long way of reflecting on the present.  I think I’ll do it again next August!!

Here’s my second half of the August Break for the offering and viewing.  If you missed part 1, click on this link: Break for August | Part I.

I get really nervous when I have to take a selfie - I have no idea why this bothers me so terribly much.  It could be that I'm more comfortable on the "giving" end of photography, rather than the "receiving."  Anyhow I actually incorporated 2 - and published them on my blog!  Gah!!  Once I hit publish on this baby, I'll be hiding under my covers.  Go easy on me, friends.  :)  And Thank you for stopping by.

Break for August | Part I

I’ve been taking part in Susannah Conway’s month-long, August Break.  Otherwise known as “a month of slowing down.”  For me, taking time to slow down sounds really appealing.  Anyone with little ones knows how difficult it can be to find “me time,” if at all.  So, I thought, well, let’s give it a go and see how far I can get into the month!

Each day there is a new prompt and a new opportunity to *slow down,* contemplate and challenge ourselves to fulfill the day’s assignment.  I try not to look ahead and only read that day’s prompt and maybe the following.  I’m having fun with the assigned prompts, taking time to ponder over each one thoughtfully, meaningfully, then sharing the goods.  I’ve also enjoyed viewing other photographer’s interpretations and have made new photog-friends from across the great pond!  How wonderful to know we, in the busy-ness of our daily lives, are all connected.   And the month’s not over yet!!  Thanks to Ms. Conway for the inspiration!!
